Impacktive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering duffle bags to foster children in need.
Foster children have only a few possessions. As such, those things are held dear to their heart because they are the only constant in their uncertain lives.
They are given only a plastic bag or a pillowcase to hold their most valued treasures. It is our mission to give dignity to children without a forever home, and we go about this by raising funds to provide duffle bags to hold their precious treasures.
The Impacktive program is a vision by Miss McKinney’s Outstanding Teen 2017 Keleigh Axelrod.
I am a sixteen year old adoptee passionate and determined to impact the quality of life for as many foster children as I can. Impacktive is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering duffel bags to foster children in need. Foster children have only a few possessions. As such, those things are held dear to their heart because they are the only constant in their uncertain lives. You would think they would be given a sturdy bag to hold those belongings, but sadly, they are given only a plastic bag or a pillowcase to hold their most valued treasures. Even when I was adopted, I had only a grocery bag holding all that I owned which inspired me and the reason this organization was created.
I consider myself incredibly fortunate to be loved by so many and have such a wonderful life. Because of this, it is my desire to impact as many lives as possible, especially those who were not spared life in foster care. I can make that impact upon the lives of foster children by giving them dignity when they have to walk through the door to their next temporary home. It is small, but important, because put yourself in their shoes, would you go to school with a garbage bag instead of a backpack?
I was adopted at the age of nine months from a young single mother in South Dakota. She was overwhelmed and could not properly care for me physically or financially. As a result, I was headed for the foster care system. However, neither my biological mother or her extended family wanted that as my destiny. They knew if it was, they would never get to see me again. By the Grace of God, swift action on the part of my biological family and a desperate plea to a childhood friend in Texas, it was not my destiny. Instead, I was adopted by a childless couple in Texas who happened to be my aunt’s best friend growing up and still is today.
I am acutely aware that there could have been a different outcome which is why it is my mission to make an impact.
